HMC7911LP5E General Description
The HMC7911LP5E is a cutting-edge gallium arsenide (GaAs), pseudomorphic (pHEMT), monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) upconverter designed for high performance in a compact size. Operating from 17 GHz to 20 GHz, this device offers a small signal conversion gain of 18 dB with impressive sideband rejection of 30 dBc. Its innovative design includes a variable gain amplifier and an in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) mixer driven by an active 2× local oscillator (LO) multiplier. With IF1 and IF2 mixer inputs, an external 90° hybrid is needed to select the desired sideband. The use of I/Q mixer topology reduces the need for filtering of the unwanted sideband, making it a highly efficient and streamlined solution. Notably, the HMC7911 is a much smaller and more convenient alternative to traditional hybrid style single sideband (SSB) upconverter assemblies, and it eliminates the need for wire bonding by allowing the use of surface-mount manufacturing techniques
